The Golden Senegalus Bichir (Polypterus senegalus “Golden”) is a striking freshwater ornamental fish known for its vibrant golden coloration, elongated body, and prehistoric appearance. Native to African waters and selectively bred for the aquarium trade, this bichir is admired for its hardy nature, unique swimming style, and rare beauty, making it a highly sought-after species among collectors and aquascaping enthusiasts. Bichirs are often called “living fossils”, with a lineage tracing back to the age of dinosaurs. The golden morph is a selectively bred variety, prized for its rare and luminous appearance.
