Deskripsi
Bristlenose Pleco (Ancistrus cf. cirrhosus)
Also known as the Bushynose or Bushymouth Pleco, the Bristlenose Pleco is a member of the Loricariidae family of South American suckermouth catfish. Renowned for its ease of breeding in aquariums, this species has become a favorite among hobbyists worldwide, with numerous attractive color morphs developed over time. Its most distinctive feature is the cluster of bristle-like appendages that emerge on the facial area starting in sub-adulthood—more prominent and elaborate in males. This unique trait makes the Bristlenose instantly recognizable and adds to its ornamental value.
A peaceful, hardy, and undemanding fish, the Bristlenose Pleco is an ideal choice for community aquariums. Unlike the Common Pleco (Hypostomus plecostomus) or Trinidad Pleco (Hypostomus punctatus), which can grow beyond 18 inches (45 cm), the Bristlenose remains compact at just 4–5 inches (10–13 cm). This smaller size makes it far more manageable and suitable for aquariums as small as 30 gallons.
