Sourced from the pristine, fast-flowing streams of Indonesia, the Blue Neon Stiphodon Goby is among the most spectacular freshwater fish in the ornamental trade. Known for its vibrant, iridescent blue stripe and unique dorsal fin shape, this species is a true centerpiece for any aquascape. Males display an especially striking appearance, with a deep, near-black body that makes their neon blue coloration shine even brighter.
In nature, these gobies inhabit clear rivers with mixed gravel substrates, using their streamlined bodies and modified pelvic fins to cling to smooth stones while grazing on aufwuchs—a mix of algae and microorganisms. In the aquarium, they thrive in environments that mimic their natural habitat, such as tanks with varied river rocks, bright lighting to promote algae growth, and a gentle but steady current. While they naturally graze, they will also accept live foods like brine shrimp and quality prepared diets such as Repashy gels.
